KLM replaces Delft Blue safety video on intercontinental flights

KLM has replaced the Delft Blue tile animation used for more than a decade with a new safety video for its intercontinental flights. The airline began rolling out the replacement in October, with the process now complete. The new film uses animation in KLM’s illustration style and is designed to work across different aircraft types, including the Airbus A350, which recently joined the fleet.

Alongside standard safety instructions, the video covers the safe use of power banks, the smoking ban and KLM’s zero-tolerance policy towards disruptive behaviour. The adaptable design allows the same film to be used across the intercontinental fleet despite differences between aircraft types.

KLM introduced the previous video in 2015 for its intercontinental services. It translated the safety briefing into Delftware-inspired imagery, with more than 1,000 specially drawn tiles animated using stop motion. The new film leaves that visual approach behind in favour of the airline’s own illustration style.
