Synhelion has signed a memorandum of understanding with the Moroccan government to develop a commercial synthetic-fuels plant in Tan-Tan province in southern Morocco. The project is designed for annual output of 100,000 tonnes of renewable fuel, including sustainable aviation fuel, diesel and gasoline, as the Swiss cleantech company moves beyond pilot work towards its first large-scale commercial site.
The agreement covers the ministries of industry, energy transition and investment, together with the Moroccan investment promotion agency AMDIE. Synhelion has already reserved land for the project and established a local subsidiary, Synhelion Morocco. No construction start, commissioning date or investment value has been disclosed.
The Moroccan site is intended to expand Synhelion’s industrial footprint after its demonstration and early-scale activity in Europe. The company is linked with Lufthansa and SWISS through earlier cooperation on solar fuels, and the new plant is positioned as its next major scale-up step for synthetic aviation fuel production and other transport fuels.
