Kam Air in talks over new Uzbek carrier linked to Fergana

Fergana’s regional administration has discussed creating a new international airline with Afghanistan’s Kam Air, in a move that could strengthen air links between eastern Uzbekistan and Afghanistan. The exploratory meeting brought together governor Khayrullo Bozorov, a Kam Air delegation and Uzbek aviation officials, including Timur Khalilov of Uzbekistan Airports, but no launch timetable or formal agreement has been set.

The project remains at an early stage, with the parties agreeing to continue work with aviation specialists and other experts. One line of discussion centres on a possible passenger and cargo corridor from Afghan cities to Fergana, though route details have not been finalised.

Kam Air, Afghanistan’s first private commercial airline, was founded in 2003 and operates to more than 15 destinations. The carrier already flies between Kabul and Tashkent, with one Uzbek report describing the service as running since November 2017 and operating twice weekly this year.
