Italian Eurofighter damaged in Houthi attack on Saudi air base

Italy’s defence ministry confirmed that an Italian Air Force Eurofighter Typhoon, designated F-2000, was hit during overnight attacks on Ta’if air base in Saudi Arabia. No Italian personnel were injured, and officials reported no further damage to vehicles or infrastructure used by the Italian contingent.

Defence Minister Guido Crosetto monitored the situation overnight and coordinated with Italy’s chief of defence staff as the security picture developed. The aircraft was parked in a remote area of the base when it was struck, limiting the impact to the jet itself.

The incident highlights the exposure of deployed Italian air assets to spillover from the wider Yemen conflict, even when they are not engaged in offensive operations. Italian forces are stationed at Ta’if in support of regional duties linked to Operation Inherent Resolve and air surveillance, making the damage to a frontline combat aircraft a notable operational setback.
