FOSSA inaugurates expanded satellite headquarters in Madrid

FOSSA Systems has inaugurated a new 3,000-square-metre headquarters in Las Rozas, Madrid, to expand its satellite manufacturing and mission operations. The facility can produce up to 16 satellites simultaneously and is designed to support larger spacecraft as the Spanish company develops communications, intelligence, security and defence applications for a planned 140-satellite low-Earth-orbit constellation.

The site brings satellite design, integration, testing and mission control together in one location. It includes a clean room, laboratories, software-development areas and a control centre, with around 60 employees working at the facility. The consolidation is intended to increase production capacity and support the company’s next phase of industrial expansion.

FOSSA has placed 26 satellites into orbit to date and operates internationally through activities in Portugal and Japan. The new headquarters replaces the company’s previous central offices on Madrid’s Gran Vía and provides capacity for spacecraft larger than those produced previously.

Spanish Economy Minister and First Deputy Prime Minister Carlos Cuerpo attended the inauguration on 13 October alongside Innovation Secretary-General Teresa Riesgo and Spanish Space Agency Director Juan Carlos Cortés. FOSSA co-founder and chief executive Julián Fernández and co-founder Vicente González hosted the visit. The company expected its next launch to take place within weeks.
