Irish aircraft lessor Avolon has placed a firm order for 140 Boeing 737 MAX aircraft as part of a 250-aircraft commitment with Boeing and Airbus. The deal also covers 75 A320neo-family jets and 35 A330neo-family aircraft, plus options for 100 additional Airbus aircraft, expanding Avolon’s delivery pipeline for airline customers seeking newer, more fuel-efficient fleets.
The combined order is Avolon’s largest commitment with either manufacturer. It would increase the lessor’s total firm aircraft commitments to 749, alongside 561 aircraft already owned. On a pro forma basis, Avolon’s owned, managed and committed fleet would reach 1,342 aircraft.
The transactions remain subject to approval by Bohai Leasing, Avolon’s majority shareholder, which owns 70% of the company. Approval is expected before the end of October.
Avolon’s third-quarter business update also reported ongoing fleet activity, including the placement of new-technology aircraft from its existing commitments. The lessor is using the new orders to support long-term customer requirements and maintain capacity in its delivery pipeline amid sustained demand for newer-generation narrowbody and widebody aircraft.
