Liège and Viracopos seek new Europe–Brazil freighter links

Liège Airport in Belgium and Viracopos International Airport in Brazil have signed a memorandum of understanding to attract new freighter services between Europe and Brazil. Signed during the Air Cargo Forum in Miami on 27 October, the agreement establishes a framework for joint route development, including market analysis, customer targeting and engagement with prospective airline partners.

The airports will promote the corridor to airlines, freight forwarders and shippers while sharing commercial intelligence and maintaining regular contact between their business-development teams. Discussions may include commercial incentives for operators, as well as technical and operational studies to assess potential all-cargo services.

Target traffic includes pharmaceuticals, technology products, e-commerce and other high-value, time-sensitive or temperature-sensitive shipments moving in both directions. The airports also see potential for Asia–Latin America cargo routed through Liège, which has established links between Asian and European markets.

Both facilities provide dedicated freighter infrastructure with direct connections between aircraft-handling areas and cargo warehouses. Viracopos is expanding pharmaceutical cold-storage capacity and has added a 20,000-square-metre logistics warehouse.

The agreement does not confirm a route launch. No airline commitment, start date, frequency or aircraft type has been disclosed, with any future service dependent on cargo demand, operator requirements and operational feasibility.
