Discover Airlines to take over Lufthansa’s Frankfurt–San José route

Discover Airlines will take over Lufthansa’s Frankfurt–San José service from 14 December 2027, operating the Costa Rica route with Airbus A330-300 aircraft. Four weekly Discover flights are planned, while two of those rotations will continue to Belize City from 16 December, creating a Frankfurt–San José–Belize City service and adding a new Central American destination to the airline’s network.

The planned schedule will increase Frankfurt–San José frequency from five flights per week in winter 2026/27 to six in winter 2027/28. The two weekly Belize City rotations are scheduled to operate through the seasonal winter period, using the same A330-300 equipment.

The transfer is part of a broader redistribution of selected long-haul routes from Lufthansa mainline to Discover Airlines, the Lufthansa Group’s leisure-focused carrier. Discover is also scheduled to assume Lufthansa’s Frankfurt and Munich–Seattle services from 31 October 2027.

The operating dates, frequencies and aircraft assignments remain based on preliminary schedule data and may change before the flights are launched. No detailed rationale has been provided regarding aircraft allocation or demand assumptions behind the route transfer.
