COMAC CE-25A? Online photos spark intrigue over new electric aircraft

Images circulating online appear to show a full-size COMAC CE-25A electric-aircraft demonstrator on an unidentified airfield, offering a possible first public view of the Chinese manufacturer’s technology platform. The red-and-dark aircraft carries COMAC and CE-25A markings and apparent registration B-0EFH, but its authenticity and operational status remain unverified. There is no confirmation of a first flight, taxi testing or a certification programme.

The photographs began attracting attention on social media and Reddit during the week of 26 October. The aircraft appears to feature multiple wing-mounted ducted fans, consistent with the distributed-electric-propulsion layout shown in COMAC’s CE-25A concept. Other reports identify ten electric motors or fans, although the airframe’s test status has not been established.

COMAC presented the CE-25A concept at the China International Import Expo in Shanghai in November 2023. The design was described as a 19-seat all-electric regional aircraft for short- and medium-distance passenger transport and business aviation, with a target range of about 400-600 km and a maximum cruising speed of 400 km/h.

The programme is intended to demonstrate high-power aircraft batteries, distributed propulsion, ducted-fan integration and flight-control systems for future electric aircraft. CATL and Shanghai Jiao Tong University were separately identified in 2025 as partners in research on battery-powered aircraft concepts. COMAC has not publicly disclosed current battery suppliers, cell specifications, a test schedule or any potential service-entry plan, while the photographs could not be independently verified and may not establish that the aircraft has flown.
