Alaska Airlines plans to launch its first nonstop service between Alaska and Japan when it connects Ted Stevens Anchorage International Airport with Tokyo Narita from 13 May 2027. The route, subject to government approval, will use a Boeing 737 MAX 8 and operate daily through 7 September before resuming three times weekly in January 2028.
Flights are scheduled to leave Anchorage at 2:10 p.m. and reach Narita at 3:25 p.m. the following day. The return service will depart Tokyo at 9:45 p.m. and arrive in Anchorage at noon local time. The westbound flight time is approximately eight hours and 15 minutes, with the schedule crossing the International Date Line.
Alaska has identified the MAX 8 as the only 737 variant in its fleet with sufficient range for the route. The aircraft will provide a single-aisle link between the carrier’s namesake state and the Asia-Pacific region, complementing Alaska’s existing 787-9 service between Seattle and Tokyo.
The Anchorage–Tokyo route is part of a four-route expansion planned for summer 2027. Alaska also intends to introduce seasonal services from Anchorage to Austin, Dallas-Fort Worth and Nashville. Introductory round-trip fares to Tokyo were offered from $999 for selected travel between 13 May and 7 June 2027, subject to availability.
