Cessna Citation Latitude overruns runway and burns at Libya’s Misrata Airport

A Turkish-registered Cessna 680A Citation Latitude overran the runway and caught fire while landing at Misrata International Airport in Libya on Monday. The business jet, registration TC-AKF, was operating an empty positioning flight from Istanbul Atatürk Airport and had no passengers aboard. All three people on board, reported as two pilots and one cabin crew member, escaped without serious injury and received treatment after the accident.

Libya’s Transport Ministry closed the airport’s airspace and suspended flights while investigators examined the cause. Early reports pointed in different directions, with some referring to an engine problem and others suggesting the aircraft may have lined up for landing from the wrong direction. No official cause determination was available in the coverage reviewed.

The aircraft was reported to be owned by Turkish businessman Hamdi Akın and operated by BKN Jet. Images and video circulating on social media showed the jet destroyed by fire on the runway, though those visuals were not independently authoritative.
