airBaltic has voluntarily filed for Chapter 11 financial reorganisation in the United States, seeking to restructure its debt and strengthen its capital structure while continuing normal operations. The filing was made in the U.S. Bankruptcy Court for the Southern District of New York, with all flights still scheduled and ticket sales, reservations and customer service remaining unaffected.
airBaltic said passengers do not need to take any action and that existing tickets, bookings, vouchers and credits remain valid. Chief executive Erno Hildén said the focus is on keeping the airline running while implementing changes in the carrier’s new business plan. The restructuring is being handled as a court-supervised process designed to improve long-term sustainability rather than a shutdown or liquidation.
The airline expects the Chapter 11 process to run until around June 2027. Reuters and other aviation and business outlets independently confirmed the filing on the same day, matching the carrier’s statement. The move comes as airBaltic faces pressure to reduce debt while preserving operations and maintaining normal service across its network.
