Belgian authorities prepare more than 1,000 Ryanair criminal summonses

Belgian authorities have prepared more than 1,000 criminal summonses in a case concerning suspected social fraud and employment-law violations in Ryanair’s Belgian operations. The summonses are not reported to have been formally issued: the legal process is still awaiting further steps. The investigation, which concerns employment practices dating back to 2018, could result in at least €5 million being recovered by the Belgian state.

The case involves 73 files before the justice system and 1,014 workers described as illegally posted, alongside thousands of official reports. Those figures were cited in 2023 by Ecolo MP Cécile Cornet. Reporting has identified Brussels Airport and Brussels South Charleroi Airport as areas of focus.

The CNE union has criticised the time taken for the case to progress. Didier Lebbe, the union’s representative responsible for the Ryanair dossier, has expressed frustration over the delay. The summonses are described as ready, but the available reporting does not establish that they have cleared final validation or been served. No conviction has been reported, and no response from Ryanair was available in the coverage.
