Austrian launches first Starlink-connected Airbus A320neo on Vienna-Porto route

Austrian Airlines has put its first Starlink-connected passenger aircraft into regular service, with a new Airbus A320neo operating the Vienna-Porto route on 7 September. The aircraft, registered OE-LXF, opened the carrier’s rollout of Lufthansa Group Wi-Fi powered by Starlink, with free access for Travel ID and Miles & More users.

CEO Annette Mann was on the inaugural flight as Austrian began installing the service across its fleet. The airline plans to equip 20 aircraft by the end of the 2026/27 winter schedule, with further expansion to follow under the wider Lufthansa Group programme.

The new system gives passengers low-latency, high-speed internet for streaming and cloud-based work, while onboard use remains subject to cabin rules. Austrian’s move comes as the Lufthansa Group broadens Starlink deployment across its airlines, following earlier groupwide steps to introduce the service on a larger scale.
