Boston Logan deploys AI hologram passenger assistant across nine locations

Boston Logan International Airport has launched Amelia, a life-size AI hologram passenger assistant, across nine locations in the terminal complex, including all four passenger terminals. The pilot service is designed to guide travellers through the airport with conversational directions, live route information and self-service help for gates, restaurants, shops, lounges, baggage claim, parking and TSA wait times.

Developed with Proto Hologram and Holomedia AI, Amelia is positioned as a concierge tool rather than a replacement for airport staff. It can hand users over to a live agent when needed and supports up to 40 languages, with English, Spanish and French available in the Boston deployment. Accessibility features include high-contrast displays, closed captioning, wheelchair-accessible positioning and WCAG-compliant mapping.

Massport is using the pilot to bolster customer support during busy periods and outside staffed hours, where service gaps are more likely to emerge. Proto Hologram founder David Nussbaum projected more than 150,000 passenger assists in the first 12 months, giving the rollout a defined operational scale as Boston Logan becomes a test case for AI-enabled wayfinding at a major US airport.
