Airbus has started a limited share buyback of up to 4.1 million shares to support future employee share ownership plans and equity-based compensation. The repurchases will take place on the open market through 6 November at the latest, with an independent investment firm carrying out the programme so Airbus does not control the timing of purchases.
The buyback sits within authority approved by shareholders at the annual general meeting on 14 April, which allowed repurchases of up to 10% of share capital. Airbus is using the programme as a financing tool for upcoming employee equity awards, while also limiting dilution for existing shareholders. The initiative is company-wide rather than tied to a single site or aircraft programme.
The size of the repurchase is capped at 4.1 million shares, making it a limited programme rather than a broad capital-return exercise. Airbus has structured the plan to comply with market-abuse rules and to leave execution decisions to the external firm, with purchases expected to vary according to market conditions.
