Vietnam Airlines lines up five more Airbus A350-900s in provisional deal

Vietnam Airlines and Airbus have signed a memorandum of understanding for five A350-900 widebody jets, with deliveries planned for 2033 and 2034. The agreement, reached during an official Vietnamese delegation visit to France, is still provisional and does not amount to a binding purchase order.

The two companies will now work through technical, commercial, financial and procedural matters before any firm procurement is completed. Vietnam Airlines is positioning the move within a long-term fleet plan that targets the addition of 30 widebody aircraft beyond 2030, while also relying on additional leasing in the nearer term to support operations and meet international demand.

The aircraft would strengthen the carrier’s long-haul network as it prepares for fleet growth in the next decade. The arrangement also forms part of broader Vietnam-France aviation cooperation, with the proposed A350-900s intended to support Vietnam Airlines’ widebody expansion strategy after 2030.
