Virgin Australia has added thousands of extra seats and special flights for the AFL Grand Final weekend, with additional capacity on Perth-Melbourne and Brisbane-Melbourne services for supporters heading to Melbourne. The extra services run from 23 to 29 September and include nearly 4,000 added seats on the Perth route and more than 1,000 on the Brisbane route.
The airline is responding to strong demand after the preliminary finals, with flights scheduled to help fans travel to Melbourne for the decider and return afterwards. Virgin Australia, the AFL’s official airline partner, is also monitoring bookings closely and will add more flights where possible. The move comes as carriers across Australia rush to expand capacity around one of the country’s busiest sporting weekends, while fares on affected routes have risen sharply.
