Venezuela expects to reopen part of Simón Bolívar International Airport at Maiquetía, the main gateway to Caracas, in the first half of 2027 after structural damage from the earthquakes on 24 June. Transport Minister Francisco Garcés outlined the recovery timetable as temporary terminals continue handling traffic at the airport, which resumed commercial operations in early September.
The facility is operating below normal capacity while repairs continue over several months. Authorities have restored roughly 49% of domestic operations and 46% of international services compared with pre-disaster levels, with 19 airlines, including 11 international carriers, using the temporary terminals. Some traffic has been redirected to airports farther from the capital.
One runway was heavily affected along the fault line but has now been fully repaired and is back in service. The government has not disclosed a full repair budget, contractor list or final completion date for the airport’s wider reconstruction.
