The US Navy has opened a procurement requirement for 19 MQM-170C Outlaw G2 target drones from Griffon Aerospace to support Carrier Strike Group Four training in the Atlantic. The action, handled by NAVSUP Fleet Logistics Center Norfolk, covers performance in Virginia and at Griffon’s site in Madison, Alabama, with the reusable drones intended for force-protection and gunnery exercises that simulate incoming airborne threats.
The MQM-170C Outlaw G2 is a reusable target system with pneumatic launch, skid landing and scoring equipment, making it suitable for repeated training use at lower cost than expendable alternatives. Its endurance of more than eight hours gives naval units greater flexibility for longer sorties and more complex exercises. The platform has a 10.8-foot wingspan and a maximum takeoff weight of 150 pounds, dimensions that support realistic threat simulation while keeping the drone compact enough for naval training operations.
The requirement opened on 8 September and the solicitation deadline fell on 10 September, making the action immediately current for procurement tracking. The available confirmation comes through a secondary defence-aviation report rather than a primary Navy notice, but the event is described as matching the same procurement activity.
