US approves $140 million Black Hawk sale to Argentina

The U.S. State Department has approved a possible Foreign Military Sale to Argentina for four UH-60L Black Hawk helicopters and related equipment, with an estimated value of $140 million. The package is intended to bolster Argentina’s rotary-wing transport fleet and support missions ranging from border security to disaster response.

The deal also covers two T700-GE-701D engines, navigation and identification equipment, radios, auxiliary fuel tanks, rescue gear, training, spare parts and logistics support. Sikorsky, the Lockheed Martin unit in Stratford, Connecticut, is named as the principal contractor.

The helicopters are expected to help Argentina replace its ageing Bell UH-1H and Huey II fleet. Washington linked the proposed sale to support for a major non-NATO ally in South America, while also pointing to wider U.S. foreign policy and national security objectives.
