Three killed, including two Britons, in Cirrus SR22T crash in Swiss Alps

Three people died when a Cirrus SR22T light aircraft crashed into a mountainside in the Fluhalp area near Leukerbad in Switzerland’s Valais canton on Tuesday afternoon. The aircraft, which had departed Lugano, stopped in Sion and was continuing toward Buochs, struck a north-facing slope shortly after 16:00 local time. Two of those on board were British nationals, and the UK Foreign Office is supporting their families.

Swiss authorities have not established the cause of the crash. Formal identification of the third victim was still under way at the time of publication. The Swiss Transportation Safety Board has opened a safety investigation, alongside separate inquiries by Valais cantonal police and the Office of the Attorney General. The aircraft involved was a Cirrus SR22T, a single-engine piston model used widely in private and business aviation.
