Swiss takes third Airbus A350-900 into Zurich as winter long-haul expansion begins

Swiss has received its third Airbus A350-900 in Zurich, with HB-IFC named Zug and scheduled to enter service from October on long-haul routes to Shanghai and Johannesburg. The aircraft is the latest addition to the airline’s A350 fleet, following Lausanne and Delémont, as Swiss continues the renewal of its intercontinental network with the new SWISS Senses cabin.

The carrier plans to operate 10 A350-900s by 2030, using the type to replace older widebody aircraft and support fleet modernisation. All three aircraft delivered so far feature the same cabin product, which is intended to lift the consistency of the premium offering across the long-haul network.

The Zurich arrival came after a go-around linked to birds on the runway, though that detail was secondary to the delivery itself. The winter deployment to Shanghai and Johannesburg gives Swiss additional capacity as it brings more A350s into service and builds towards the larger fleet planned for the end of the decade.
