Munich Airport briefly suspended takeoffs on Sunday after a pilot reported a suspicious observation to security authorities, forcing both runways to close while police searched the area. Departures were halted as a precaution, while landings continued, and the runways were released again at 16:46 local time after no object was found.
The interruption lasted about 45 minutes and involved both the Bundespolizei and the Landespolizei, which examined the airfield following the report shortly after 16:00. Police later said there were no indications of a drone incident. The episode temporarily affected operations at one of Germany’s busiest hubs, but traffic was not fully stopped because arrivals remained permitted during the search.
The event was the latest in a series of disruptions at Munich linked to suspected drone activity or similar sightings, including incidents in 2025 and at the end of May 2026. The latest case again showed how quickly a precautionary security response can disrupt hub operations even when no evidence is ultimately found.
