Munich Airport briefly closed both runways on Sunday after a pilot reported a suspicious sighting, halting departures while landings continued. The runway system at one of Germany’s busiest hubs reopened at 16:46 after a search by police found nothing and the cause of the alert remained unconfirmed.
The incident prompted a response from the German Federal Police and the Bavarian state police, which searched the area around the airport before lifting the restriction. Officials did not classify the event as a drone incident because no object was confirmed, despite the security response and temporary airside disruption.
The closure lasted only a short period, roughly from shortly after 16:00 until 16:46, but it still interrupted operations at the Munich hub. The episode fits a recent pattern of security-related disruptions affecting German airports, where brief runway suspensions have increasingly affected traffic flow and punctuality.
