Russian government says Aeroflot stake sale is ready, timing remains open

Russia’s Finance Ministry has left the planned sale of a 23.76% stake in Aeroflot open-ended after deputy finance minister Alexey Moiseev indicated the block is broadly ready for market placement. The comments, made at the Eastern Economic Forum in Vladivostok, confirm that preparations for a state sell-down in the airline are active, while the exact timing will depend on market conditions and advice from organisers.

The government still holds 73.77% of Aeroflot, Russia’s largest airline group, and the stake under discussion has been framed as a second-half 2026 transaction. Sber CIB is involved as adviser and organiser. Officials have stopped short of setting a launch date and do not intend to proceed at any price, leaving room to wait for stronger market sentiment before moving ahead.

The ministry is also expected to take account of the purchase price of shares previously acquired using National Wealth Fund money when setting terms. No pricing details, final structure or firm timetable have been disclosed.
