Rolls-Royce has completed a $1 billion modernisation of its Indiana operations after a decade of work, upgrading manufacturing, assembly and test facilities in Indianapolis and West Lafayette. The expansion gives the company full engine-test capability on site and supports US defence programmes including the B-52, C-130J, MV-75 and MQ-25.
The Indianapolis campus sits at the centre of the project and is Rolls-Royce’s largest investment in the US. The site refresh was designed to strengthen production and test capacity for military engines while improving the company’s ability to build and validate systems in Indiana rather than relying on outside facilities.
The programme also spans West Lafayette, where test-facility work formed part of the multi-phase modernisation. Indiana state officials and defence-industry stakeholders joined the company for the completion milestone, which comes as the US defence industrial base faces pressure to expand domestic manufacturing capacity and sustain long-running aircraft engine programmes.
