Malaysia Aviation Group nears order for Boeing 787-10s

Malaysia Aviation Group is close to ordering about 10 Boeing 787-10 Dreamliners for Malaysia Airlines, with the widebody deal set to replace seven leased Airbus A350s in the carrier’s long-haul fleet. The move would bring Boeing widebody aircraft back to Malaysia Airlines after roughly a decade and give the group a new aircraft type for international operations, pending final confirmation.

The proposed purchase would end Malaysia Airlines’ reliance on an all-Airbus path for its widebody renewal and broaden its options for future growth. Boeing gained an edge in the campaign by offering earlier delivery slots from 2031, while engine terms also played a role in the selection process, with GE Aviation cited as a factor. The order, if completed, would be Malaysia Airlines’ first for the 787 family and one of the most significant long-haul fleet decisions in Southeast Asia this year.
