Liebherr-Aerospace has signed an agreement with Embraer to supply an electromechanical rudder actuator for the Phenom 300EV business jet. The unit will form part of a rudder-by-wire upgrade and become standard equipment on the aircraft, which received certification from Brazil’s ANAC, the FAA and EASA in 2026 and is scheduled to enter service in 2028.
The actuator integrates its control and power electronics within the unit. Liebherr describes the system as one of the world’s first applications of an electromechanical actuator for a civil aircraft rudder in a primary flight-control role, and the first rudder actuator of this type with fully integrated electronics.
Development and production will be led by Liebherr-Aerospace Lindenberg in Germany, working with Liebherr-Elektronik in Lindau and Liebherr personnel based at Embraer facilities in Brazil. The compact, lightweight design is intended to support maintainability and reliability while improving aircraft manoeuvrability compared with conventional arrangements.
The agreement extends Liebherr’s involvement in Embraer’s Phenom programme and expands the use of integrated electric actuation on a civil primary flight-control surface. The companies have not disclosed the agreement’s financial value, unit volumes, production-rate commitments or launch-operator schedule.
