Air Serbia considers adding up to three ATR 72-600s

Air Serbia is considering expanding its regional fleet with one, two or three additional ATR 72-600 turboprops. The carrier currently operates ten of the aircraft, which form the core of its feeder operation from Belgrade across the Balkans. Any increase remains conditional on suitable aircraft or leasing opportunities becoming available, with no order, acquisition or delivery timetable confirmed.

Chief executive Jiří Marek linked the review to rising fuel prices, which have prompted Air Serbia to reassess whether its existing ATR fleet remains sufficient. The aircraft are used mainly on short-haul regional services supporting the airline’s wider network.

The potential turboprop expansion is part of a broader fleet transition. Air Serbia is phasing out Airbus A319s, introducing larger A320s and expanding its Embraer E195 operation. The airline expects its overall fleet to exceed 40 aircraft during the broader planning period, including wet-leased aircraft, while the ATR fleet remains broadly stable unless an attractive market opportunity emerges.

Marek described the ATRs as the core feeder fleet for the Balkan region. The current review therefore represents a possible incremental addition rather than a committed programme, and Air Serbia has not specified potential aircraft sources, lease terms, routes or delivery dates.
