IranAir is targeting a return to European routes, including services to London, Amsterdam and Frankfurt, if sanctions are lifted and regulatory approvals are restored. The carrier’s chief executive framed the move as a potential revival of five- to six-hour flights, but no launch date has been set and any restart remains conditional.
The airline was barred from EU access after sanctions imposed in October 2024, and its Third Country Operator authorisation expired in mid-July after annual safety audits could not be completed during the suspension. Before any service can resume, IranAir would need EU approval and then recertification by the European Union Aviation Safety Agency.
IranAir has pursued the issue through legal counsel and with support from Iran’s foreign and roads ministries, but its complaint was rejected and the EASA authorisation was cancelled. For now, the carrier’s European comeback remains a strategic objective rather than a confirmed restoration of flights.
