Ground A unveils mobile laser weapon for drone defence in Berlin

German startup Ground A has presented GA 1000, a mobile laser weapon designed to detect, identify and destroy small drones in Berlin. The demonstrator uses AI-supported target tracking and is intended to neutralise a drone after roughly one second of laser exposure, with serial production planned from next year.

The system is aimed at counter-UAS operations where short-range threats are increasingly difficult and expensive to handle with conventional interceptors. Ground A positioned the vehicle-mounted platform as a scalable option for defence users seeking lower-cost drone defeat measures, while keeping the human operator in control of the final firing decision.

The Berlin demonstration took place under controlled conditions and centred on the brief sequence needed to find, lock on to and engage a target. The reports describe GA 1000 as a development-stage system rather than an operational deployment, and do not indicate any procurement order or battlefield use.
