A Boeing 767-300F operating as Amazon Air Flight 7598 and leased by 21 Air overran Runway 30 at Miami International Airport on Sunday and struck a van carrying seven people as well as an SUV near the airport perimeter. The aircraft had arrived from San Juan, Puerto Rico, and the collision caused fatalities and injuries while disrupting airport operations and prompting an NTSB investigation.
The van was owned by a cleaning contractor working at the airport. Five people died and five were injured, including three in critical condition, with the victims confined to the two vehicles hit by the aircraft. The exact distribution of fatalities between those on board the aircraft and those in the vehicles has not been fully identified.
The runway excursion raised fresh questions over safety at one of the United States’ busiest airports. Operations were partially restored after the emergency response, while investigators continued to examine why the cargo jet left the runway and struck the vehicles.
