GE Aerospace to invest $225 million in Niskayuna research centre

GE Aerospace will invest $225 million to modernise its research centre in Niskayuna, New York, in a project backed by state and local incentives and expected to create 75 full-time jobs over five years. The upgrade will keep research operations running during construction with minimal disruption while work begins immediately and continues over several years.

About two-thirds of the spending will go on infrastructure upgrades, with the remainder directed to advanced research equipment and technology. New York State has committed $8.4 million in tax credits through Empire State Development, while the Schenectady County Metroplex Development Authority is contributing $5.3 million in local incentives.

The investment is aimed at expanding GE Aerospace’s R&D capabilities in AI-enabled systems, autonomy, advanced materials, hypersonic propulsion and hybrid-electric flight. The Niskayuna site has served as a major research hub for more than 75 years, and the overhaul is designed to keep the centre anchored as a key base for aerospace innovation in New York.
