Denmark Sends F-35s to Greenland for First Time

Two Royal Danish Air Force F-35s landed at Kangerlussuaq Airport in western Greenland on Wednesday, the first time Denmark’s fifth-generation fighters have touched down on the island. The aircraft joined U.S. F-16s and Canadian F-18s in a multinational Arctic training operation under NATO’s Arctic Sentry mission.

The deployment extends Danish F-35 activity into Greenlandic infrastructure after previous patrols from Keflavik in Iceland and earlier Danish fighter operations from Kangerlussuaq with F-16s. The exercise combines air training and Arctic surveillance in a region where NATO members have increased operational presence. Danish forces did not indicate any permanent basing change, and the landing appears to form part of a wider allied rotation focused on operating in Arctic conditions.
