Cambodia and US finalise open skies agreement after 12-year talks

Cambodia and the United States have finalised an open skies air services agreement after 12 years of negotiations, clearing the legal path for direct scheduled passenger flights between the two markets.

The deal was sealed in Phnom Penh and comes with a reported US$100 million commitment from the US International Development Finance Corporation for aviation infrastructure modernisation and expansion in Cambodia. The agreement also fits Phnom Penh’s tourism-led air transport push, but no launch date or carrier plan has been announced.

For operators, the removal of bilateral constraints should sharpen the case for nonstop long-haul services if yields and fleet economics hold.
