Dubai Airports is pressing ahead with a broad investment programme at Dubai International Airport to upgrade passenger facilities and operational systems as traffic gradually rebuilds. The work covers refreshed guest areas, a new consolidated remote departures experience, expanded self-service options, continued biometric roll-out, smarter operational tools and targeted capacity improvements.
The upgrade push comes after first-half traffic at DXB fell 31.3% year on year to 31.5 million passengers, following disruption earlier in 2026 and a sharp drop in second-quarter volumes. Activity improved through May and June as airline schedules began to return, and the operator is aiming to simplify journeys, ease congestion and improve passenger flow across the hub.
Refurbishment is already under way in several areas, including the reopening of a refurbished Hammerhead remote terminal off Concourse B, a new retail zone and improvements at Terminal 1. Those works include new floors, additional security lanes and advanced screening equipment. The investment programme forms part of Dubai Airports’ longer-term plan to keep DXB competitive while expansion continues at Al Maktoum International Airport.
