Qantas Group has opened a new Emergency Procedures Training Centre at its Mascot campus near Sydney Airport, expanding cabin crew and pilot training capacity with Australia’s first Airbus A350 simulator. The A$65 million facility is part of a broader A$100 million investment in training infrastructure and is designed to support more than 10,000 Qantas, Jetstar and QantasLink crew members each year.
The centre combines widebody and narrowbody training in one location, with replica aircraft cabins, door trainers for eight aircraft types, a multi-storey escape slide and rafts, virtual reality modules and classrooms across two floors. Alongside the A350 unit, Sydney has also gained new A320 and Q400 simulators as Qantas expands preparation for fleet growth and future long-haul operations under Project Sunrise.
The training build-up comes as Qantas prepares for the A350-1000ULR aircraft that will be used on the programme’s ultra-long-haul routes. The new facility is intended to consolidate emergency procedures training for pilots and cabin crew across the group and increase the airline’s ability to train staff in Sydney rather than relying on separate, smaller sites.
