Italy’s defence minister has denied that a reported €3 billion air-defence package for Ukraine has been formally approved, despite media coverage suggesting a near-finalised 13th military aid tranche centred on SAMP/T NG systems, Aster 30 missiles and radars. The update leaves the proposed transfer to Ukraine in preparation rather than adopted, with the package still awaiting review by COPASIR before any delivery.
Guido Crosetto’s clarification came after same-day reporting in Italy framed the package as imminent. Foreign Minister Antonio Tajani later indicated that the defence ministry was working on another package and that it would follow the usual COPASIR procedure before submission. The aid process remains part of Italy’s classified military support mechanism, under which decrees are reviewed by the parliamentary oversight committee before formal adoption.
The reported package would have been one of Italy’s largest contributions to Ukraine’s air-defence network, but no published decree has confirmed it. Italy has already provided multiple military aid packages since 2022, while parliament has authorised continued civilian and military support in 2026.
