British Airways will split its Heathrow services to Rio de Janeiro and Buenos Aires from 28 March 2027, ending the current triangle operation via Brazil. Rio will keep a daily Heathrow flight on a dedicated basis, while Buenos Aires will regain a daily nonstop Heathrow service with onward continuation to Santiago, using Boeing 787-8 and Boeing 777-200ER aircraft respectively.
The change removes the Rio–Buenos Aires tag from the network and restores a direct London–Buenos Aires link after years of one-stop service. British Airways is also increasing dedicated seat capacity on the Rio route, as the carrier reworks its Latin American schedule for summer 2027. The wider plan lifts capacity across the region by 25%, with the Buenos Aires–Santiago sector becoming a daily operation and Santiago’s standalone Heathrow service suspended.
