British Airways has faced another operational headache after an emergency evacuation slide accidentally deployed on a Boeing 787-10 during turnaround at Montréal-Trudeau International Airport, delaying flight BA94 to London Heathrow by several hours. No injuries were reported, and the aircraft was later cleared to continue after safety checks and slide recovery.
The incident took place while ground handling was under way and a catering truck was positioned beside the aircraft, creating an immediate safety risk when the slide inflated unexpectedly. The disruption held up departure for around two and a half to three and a half hours, depending on the report, and also affected a later rotation that the aircraft was due to operate. The jet was not cancelled, but engineers had to remove or reset the slide before the service could resume.
British Airways apologised to passengers and described the deployment as a technical error. The episode is rare but operationally disruptive, especially on long-haul services where an aircraft may have to remain out of service until checks are complete and the emergency exit system is made airworthy again.
