American retrofits first Boeing 777-300ER with Flagship Suite and expanded premium cabin

American Airlines has unveiled its first retrofitted Boeing 777-300ER, introducing the Flagship Suite cabin on the type and increasing premium seating to 144 from 116. The aircraft is fitted with 70 Flagship Suite business-class seats with privacy doors, 44 Premium Economy seats and 30 Main Cabin Extra seats, while Flagship First is being removed from the 777-300ER fleet.

The first aircraft entered service on the New York JFK–Buenos Aires route, with the full fleet of 20 Boeing 777-300ERs due to be refurbished by 2027. American will stop selling Flagship First on 777-300ER services from 19 November 2026, as the carrier continues to reshape its long-haul product around a more premium-heavy layout. The updated cabin adds lie-flat seating, greater privacy and refreshed onboard amenities for international travellers, while also aligning the aircraft more closely with the airline’s broader premium-cabin strategy across its widebody network.
