Airbus awards Mahindra Aerostructures A320neo fuselage-skin contract as Indian sourcing expands

Airbus has awarded Mahindra Aerostructures a multi-year contract to manufacture fuselage skins for the A320 family, including the A320neo and A321XLR. The work will be carried out at Mahindra Aerostructures’ Bengaluru plant and shipped to Airbus Aerostructures in Augsburg, Germany, with first deliveries targeted for 2028.

The contract covers 11 skins in total, including eight for Section 18 and three for Section 19, which form part of the rear fuselage and tail area. Engineering work, including tooling design, qualification and inspection planning, is already under way, alongside preparations for chemical milling, surface treatment and stretch-forming capability.

The award extends Mahindra Aerostructures’ role in Airbus’ supply chain and adds more complex aerostructure work to Indian manufacturing. It also fits Airbus’ wider effort to deepen local sourcing and build higher-value industrial capability in India across commercial aircraft programmes.
