AirAsia Group Berhad has reaffirmed confidence in its long-term strategy as it faces market speculation and wider aviation headwinds, saying in Bangkok that it is managing operations, finances and fleet plans with a disciplined approach. The group linked planned fundraising to debt restructuring, refinancing and balance-sheet consolidation rather than short-term operating needs, while pointing to the low-cost model, fare optimisation and ancillary revenue growth as support for profitability.
The airline group framed the message as a response to what it described as unsubstantiated speculation about its financial position. It remained upbeat on demand in the peak fourth quarter and on its longer-term commercial prospects, despite geopolitical uncertainty, fuel volatility, cost inflation and shifting travel patterns.
Reuters reported on the same day that Tony Fernandes highlighted strong liquidity and said the group expects to raise more than $1 billion, mainly to refinance debt. AirAsia Group Berhad, formerly AirAsia X Berhad, is positioning the capital move as part of a broader effort to strengthen its long-term capital structure rather than address immediate cash pressure.
