Air Cairo has placed a firm order for 15 Airbus A320neo aircraft, formalising its first direct purchase from the European manufacturer at the El Alamein International Airshow in Egypt. The deal expands the Egyptian carrier’s narrowbody fleet strategy as it continues to grow beyond a leased-aircraft model and strengthens its position in the region’s competitive short-haul market.
Airbus did not disclose financial terms, delivery timing or engine selection. The airline has previously operated Airbus jets on lease, making the agreement a shift towards a direct original equipment manufacturer relationship.
The carrier has outlined an ambition to expand from just over 45 aircraft to more than 130 by 2034, with recent fleet additions pointing to an active growth phase. It recently took delivery of its 40th aircraft, an A320neo, as it builds capacity for a larger network and higher utilisation across its operations.
