Air Force Special Operations Command has validated the AGM-190A Havoc Spear small cruise missile after a combat evaluation in spring 2026, paving the way for broader operational use across special operations and conventional aircraft. The weapon was employed from an AFSOC aircraft in the U.S. Africa Command area of responsibility, where two missiles struck two validated ground targets.
The command described the missile as precise and effective after the evaluation, which met its requirement for a small cruise missile. The official material did not identify the aircraft variant used, disclose the exact strike location or provide warhead details.
Havoc Spear is developed by Leidos and was publicly introduced earlier this year as AFSOC’s newest cruise missile. The latest evaluation adds combat use to the programme’s development history and extends its potential beyond the special operations fleet, although the service has not disclosed how widely it could be fielded or when broader operational use might begin.
