Bombardier has marked 40 years of its Smart Services cost-per-flight-hour support programmes, which now cover more than 1,500 of the company’s business aircraft and represent more than 11 million cumulative flight hours. The milestone was highlighted during NBAA-BACE in Las Vegas, where the programme’s predictable maintenance-cost model remains central to Bombardier’s support offering for business-aviation and defence operators.
The programme began in 1986 as Smart Parts, one of the aviation industry’s early cost-per-flight-hour solutions for airframe-system components. Its coverage now includes component exchanges, avionics, tyres, brakes and corrosion protection, helping operators manage expenditure for major maintenance-related systems.
The current portfolio includes Smart Services Elite, which extends coverage to major components, scheduled and unscheduled aircraft systems and landing-gear overhauls. Smart Services Defense provides comparable support tailored to defence operators. Each customer is assigned an account manager to provide guidance based on the aircraft and operator’s requirements.
Bombardier hosted a customer and stakeholder event in Las Vegas on 21 October to mark the anniversary. The company’s latest figures indicate the programme’s scale, but no revenue, contract-value or enrollment-growth data were disclosed. The milestone represents a continuation of Bombardier’s aftermarket support model rather than the launch of a new product.
