ITA Airways will launch a direct route between Rome Fiumicino and Caracas on 30 March 2027, restoring scheduled air links between Italy and Venezuela. The service will operate three times a week on Tuesdays, Thursdays and Sundays using Airbus A330-900 aircraft, with flights serving Simón Bolívar International Airport in Maiquetía.
The route was formalised through a memorandum of understanding signed by ITA Airways chief executive and general director Joerg Eberhart and Venezuela’s ambassador to Italy, María Elena Uzzo Giannattasio. The agreement follows cooperation between the airline, government authorities and Venezuela’s diplomatic representatives in Italy.
The service is intended to meet demand from business travellers, tourists and Venezuela’s sizeable Italian and Italian-descended community. Passengers travelling from Caracas will also be able to connect through Rome Fiumicino to ITA Airways’ domestic Italian and international network.
The launch was originally expected in late 2026 but was postponed after June earthquakes damaged parts of Maiquetía airport. The new route follows the suspension of Alitalia’s previous Rome–Caracas service in 2015 and expands ITA Airways’ South American network. The announcement did not provide flight times, fares, cabin details or confirmation that tickets are on sale.
