Mexico orders second C-130J-30 Super Hercules

Mexico’s Fuerza Aérea Mexicana has acquired a second Lockheed Martin C-130J-30 Super Hercules tactical airlifter, extending a fleet modernisation effort that began with the first aircraft order in January. The follow-on deal expands the air force’s tactical transport capacity and its ability to support humanitarian missions across Latin America.

The C-130J-30 is the stretched version of the Super Hercules, with 15 feet more cargo space than the standard aircraft, alongside higher payload, range, power and fuel efficiency. Lockheed Martin highlighted the aircraft’s role in emergency response, saying Mexico’s first C-130J-30 has already been used to move emergency supplies, medical aid and personnel to Venezuela after earthquakes.

No contract value or delivery timetable for the second aircraft was disclosed. The latest acquisition makes Mexico the first Latin American operator of the current-generation Hercules family and gives the country two C-130J-30s for tactical airlift and disaster relief missions.
