flydubai to add 737-800 freighters as cargo strategy expands

flydubai will launch dedicated freighter operations on 1 October, deploying three wet-leased Boeing 737-800 freighters from SolitAir and establishing its first standalone cargo service at Dubai World Central. The aircraft will add up to 23,000 kg of payload capacity per flight, giving the airline main-deck lift for scheduled services and ad-hoc charters beyond the belly-hold space on its passenger fleet.

The operation forms the first phase of a wider cargo plan, with flydubai set to review passenger-to-freighter conversions from 2029. The freighters will be based at Al Maktoum International Airport, supporting trades that need guaranteed capacity, flexible timings and specialised handling. flydubai also sees the move as a way to deepen Dubai’s logistics offering through its network of more than 100 destinations. Early route indications point to weekly freighter flights between Dubai and Almaty from 2 October, although some commercial and network details remain to be disclosed.
